Achievement Unlocked: MAP Tomcat Fest FunLogro desbloqueado: Diversión en el MAPA Tomcat Fest

On March 20, hundreds of East Aurora students were invited to a special celebration to honor and acknowledge their achievement in growth on their MAP exam scores. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) suite of exams allows school districts, like D131, to measure and assess student achievement in areas like Reading and Math. Student scores are then measured against grade level expectations, and their peers taking the same exams, both in East Aurora, and also state and nationally. Every student is given a growth goal based on their Fall MAP score that they are encouraged to hit over the course of the school year. Students are MAP test typically three times a year: in the Fall, at the beginning of the year, at the midway point in the Winter, and lastly in the Spring to measure overall growth. 

MAP scores typically are used to assist students with course placement and opportunity, as well as to identify helpful interventions, This year, they were also used as a cause for celebration as students who hit their growth targets on their most recent MAP exams were invited to participate in EAHS’ inaugural MAP Achievement Tomcat Fest.

Honored students were invited down to the fieldhouse at the start of 8th period to partake in all manner of frivolity and fun. There were snacks and drinks and treats aplenty. Several students played pick up basketball or two-hand touch football. TVs were set up where students could watch the NCAA tournament or challenge each other in video game combat. There were also a variety of inflatables for the students to explore while classic rock blared in the background. MAP Achievement Tomcat Fest was a fun an innovative way to recognize student success and give them the opportunity to relax and cut loose headed in to Spring Break the following Week. 

 

El 20 de marzo, cientos de estudiantes de East Aurora fueron invitados a una celebración especial para honrar y reconocer sus logros en el progreso académico en sus calificaciones del examen MAP. El conjunto de exámenes Medidas de Progreso Académico (MAP) permite a los distritos escolares, como el D131, medir y evaluar el rendimiento estudiantil en áreas como Lectura y Matemáticas. Las calificaciones de los estudiantes se comparan con las expectativas de su grado y con las de sus compañeros que presentan los mismos exámenes, tanto en East Aurora como a nivel estatal y nacional. Cada estudiante recibe una meta de crecimiento basada en su calificación MAP de otoño, la cual se les anima a alcanzar a lo largo del año escolar. Los estudiantes se someten al examen MAP típicamente tres veces al año: en otoño, a principios de año, a mediados de invierno y, por último, en primavera para medir su progreso general.

Las puntuaciones del MAP se utilizan generalmente para ayudar a los estudiantes con la colocación y las oportunidades en los cursos, así como para identificar intervenciones útiles. Este año, también se utilizaron como motivo de celebración, ya que los estudiantes que alcanzaron sus objetivos de crecimiento en sus exámenes MAP más recientes fueron invitados a participar en el Festival Tomcat de Logros MAP inaugural de EAHS.

Los estudiantes distinguidos fueron invitados al pabellón deportivo al comienzo del octavo periodo para disfrutar de todo tipo de actividades divertidas. Hubo refrigerios, bebidas y golosinas en abundancia. Varios estudiantes jugaron baloncesto o fútbol americano de toque a dos manos. Se instalaron televisores donde los estudiantes podían ver el torneo de la NCAA o retar a sus compañeros en combates de videojuegos. También había una variedad de inflables para que los estudiantes exploraran mientras sonaba rock clásico de fondo. El Festival Tomcat de Logros MAP fue una forma divertida e innovadora de reconocer el éxito estudiantil y darles la oportunidad de relajarse y desconectar durante las vacaciones de primavera de la semana siguiente.
