A letter from the Superintendent: March 27, 2020

Dear East Aurora School District Community,

Congratulations on making through two weeks of remote learning! We have finally reached spring break. Please help your children unplug this week from the e-learning and packets and relax. We so greatly appreciate your partnership as we attempt to continue your child’s education remotely. This week I want to share with you an assortment of important updates and information as we are fully prepared to support our children and families as we return to remote learning following spring break on April 6th.

State Remote Learning Plans

The Governor has not yet addressed school closure and thus we are still operating under an April 8th return to school. We believe this may change next week if the virus continues to accelerate throughout our State. We will communicate immediately with you should an extension of school closure occur. We also are aware that the State is releasing new guidance for schools on remote learning soon. This guidance will give local school districts parameters by which to engage students and support parents in this process. We are working with our union leadership to insure successful planning and implementation of our remote learning at each grade level.

Learning Packet Distribution

For students in grades K-5, additional learning packets will be printed and available for families to pick up at each elementary school, beginning Monday, April 6th, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Parents will be able to pick up the packets daily through April 9th if school closures is extended. Electronic copies of the packets will also be made available online and sent through the Infinite Campus Portal on April 6th.

Future e-learning opportunities for K-5

The district is actively exploring providing iPads to all Kindergarten through 5th grade students, if the school closure is extended beyond the first two weeks of April. This would allow greater engagement of our teaching staff through e-learning platforms for elementary schools. More info to come.

Student Meals

We will continue to provide student meals during spring break. Breakfast and lunch will be distributed each weekday, Monday through Friday, at five school sites. We have added a 5th school site to our student meal distribution. As of Monday, March 30, Benavides STEAM Academy, 250 E. Indian Trail Road, Door #1, will also distribute student meals from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, Monday through Friday. Student ID’s are not needed, and you can choose to pick up meals from any of the five sites that are convenient to your family.

We will also continue meal distribution through our First Student bus routes, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. Students and/or parents can simply go to any First Student bus stop convenient for your family and receive meals. No ID required. Please take advantage of this service.

Other student and family resources

See our website for additional resources, including Aurora area food pantries, emergency hotel rates in Aurora, Kane County human services, and free internet access.

Census 2020

By now you should have received in the mail an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. While our lives have changed and our students are not in school, we must not be distracted in responding to this most important duty. Missing just one child in the 2020 Census means missing out on federal funding for that child for the next 10 years. If you complete the Census 2020 online, you will save time and resources, and eliminate the need to follow up with your residence. You may also respond by mail or by phone. While you are home, please take the time to respond.

Social Distancing

A reminder about social distancing as the weather improves. Please avoid gathering in public places. Please remember that playgrounds, school facilities (including fields, tracks, and parking lots), etc. are off limits. The “Stay at Home” order mandates that we be at home as much as possible.

Thank you for your continued support of East Aurora School District 131.
