Home of the Waldo Wildcats and over 900 Middle School Students from the East Side of Aurora! We are one of District 131’s three middle schools. We have a multicultural student and staff population. Failure is not an option at K. D. Waldo and we take pride in our commitment to excellence and initiative to find ways to help all students succeed!
Waldo offers general education, bilingual/ESL, honors, and special education classes at all three grade levels. There are two computer resource centers and a learning resource center. Waldo also offers a variety of vocational classes to students. Students, further, have offerings of Spanish, band, and choir.
The KD Waldo Community is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment that is conducive to educating the whole child.
KD Waldo Middle School features grade level, interdisciplinary teams. These teams consist of a math teacher, ELA teacher, and a science/social studies teacher. Each team shares a group of approximately 100 students. The schedule for each team is three 90 minute block classes that the team can be used for flexible scheduling to have activities and/or team incentives. The team approach is used to develop not only the students academically but also social-emotionally.
As well as the interdisciplinary teams, each grade level has professional learning communities, or PLC’s. These are made up of the all the teachers in each grade level that teach each subject. These teachers meet to plan the lessons, review data, and create formal and summative assessments for the students.
Further, Waldo Middle School has three counselors, one for each grade level. These counselors will loop with the students through six, seventh, and eighth grade. If a student needs social work or special education, their social worker and/or case manager will also loop with the student for all three years as well.
As part of the school schedule, twice a week students receive instructional guidance on anti-bullying and multi-tiered systems of supports or MTSS. Each team of teachers meets three times a week in their academic teams to plan for students, interdisciplinary units, and/or activities. The PLC’s at each grade level also meet twice a week to plan as well.
Currently, for the 2017-2018 school year, there are 954 students attending K.D. Waldo Middle School.
